Barefoot Running
These are my new running shoes. I'm training barefoot for the next four to five weeks. This is an attempt to learn to run lighter, to help heal my Plantar Faciitis and to transition to a lighter shoe. This morning I ran six miles barefoot and it was real eye opener. I learned to run quieter and I worked muscles that I didn't know that I had. Check out Geezer's video of us running in the dense fog.

WHAT!?!!!! You're crazy Deb! no but really, that is so great, I've never even thought about that, does it not hurt? I mean 6 miles is a LOT to run barefoot.
Running without shoes does not hurt. As long as I am on soft grass, like at Zilker park (where they have ACL). I did step on a sticker last Wed and that hurt like hell. In the morning it's cold and your feet get cold, almost numb. When I wear my shoes it kills my feet. It feels like I have little popcorn kernals all in the arch. With each step they explode into popcorn. I'm working to massage them out, but it hurts to touch them. It's weird running barefoot b/c I'm making contact on the ball of my foot, which before it was my heel. Hopefully it won't be too bad as I train over the next couple of weeks.
Nice! 6 miles, though, that could really hurt if you haven't done much barefoot or minimal shoe running yet. The calves are usually the ones that suffer because they finally have to work when you land forefoot (unlike landing on your heel). I would suggest ramping up more slowly - think feet, not miles. But if you don't hurt afterwards, good! As long as you aren't still landing on your heel - that could actually lead to a stress fracture.
I put together a 12 Step Program to Run Shodless to help myself go slowly, and others. You might find it helpful. I sure would love to know what you think of it and how things are progressing for you. Link: http://bit.ly/eGgHm
All the best!

Clynton,
Thanks for the tips. You're right, my calves are killing me. I'm walking around like Frankenstein. Now I know what my legs should be feeling after my runs. I haven't been working the right muscles at all. I'm going to slow it down for a bit before I hurt myself again.
